The filter holds back what should never leave the tank. When it packs, water starts heading back toward the house.

The outlet filter sits at the tank’s exit and stops solids washing out into the leachfield. It is quiet, unglamorous work, and the leachfield is the part of the system you cannot afford to lose.
It clogs. Hair, grease, wipes and paper towels all end up pressed against the screen. Once it is packed the tank cannot discharge properly and water starts backing up the wrong direction.
What clogs it
All of it ends up pressed against the same screen.
It binds together and mats across the screen faster than most people expect.
Cooking fat goes down warm, cools, and hardens onto the filter surface.
Including the ones sold as flushable. They do not break down in a tank.
Built to hold together when wet. That is exactly the problem here.
A packed filter is one of the most common reasons behind a slow drain complaint.
How often
How many people live in the house moves that interval more than anything else. A full house pushes more through the tank, so the filter loads faster.
On a pumping call the filter comes out and gets cleaned as part of the visit, so booking it alongside a scheduled pumping saves a separate trip.
If the tank has risers, the filter is reachable without digging anything up.

Part of the pumping visit, not an add-on trip.
Our word
Before the truck leaves, you hear the condition of the filter and the tank behind it, straight from the tech who rinsed it. If once a year is enough for your house, that is what you will hear. No upsell script, no mystery invoice.

Ron came out to our house for the first time and he was punctual and extremely knowledgeable. He took the time to show me everything about our septic system, how it worked and what was going on… he was very professional and it was a pleasure to work with him.

Zeke was very professional. Arrived on time to pump the septic tank and shared an update on the acceptable status of the tank & system function.
