Why septic risers are a June job

When a February emergency hits a tank without risers, the frozen ground over the covers has to be jackhammered out before the real work can even start. Risers end that problem for good.

Here is a Seacoast scenario we see every winter. A tank acts up in February. The covers are buried under ground that has been freezing solid since December. Before anyone can touch the actual problem, that frozen ground has to be broken out. Jackhammer work, by the hour, on the customer’s bill.

Risers exist so that never happens to you.

What a riser actually is

A riser brings your tank’s access points up to grade, meaning ground level. Not just the tank lid: the inlet, and the outlet and filter area too, which are exactly the spots a technician needs to reach for pumping, filter rinses and winter emergency calls. With risers, a February service call starts with opening a cover, not breaking ground.

Why June

Because the installation is straightforward when the ground is soft, and impossible to appreciate until the ground is not. Summer or fall, the job is quick. Then the first time anything happens in winter, an emergency or even a routine filter rinse, the riser pays for itself in labor that never gets billed.

As the old-timers around here put it: you will be thankful you did it in June.
